SRS on Admixture
i). Admixture's are the materials added to the basic constituents just before or during mixing in order to modify the properties of concrete.
ii). Admixtures which results in early setting & hardening of concrete are called accelerators.
iii). Common types of Accelerators:
- Soluble carbonates.
- Flouro Silicates.
- Organic compound like as: Triethenolamine.
iv). Retarders: admixtures that is used to increase initial setting time.
v). Retarders reduces the rate of hydration of cement which keeps crete plastic & workable for a longer time as compound to plane crete.
vi). Plasticizers: admixtures is a substances which imparts very high work-ability with a large decrease in water content (atleast 20%) for a given workability.
vii). Silica Fume: Product resulting from reduction of high purity quartz with coal in an electric are furnace during manufacture of silicon.
viii) Rice Husk Ash (RHA): Product of controlled burning of rice husk without causing environmental pollution on proper burning it has high SiO2 content.
